The Ringgold boys soccer team traveled to Peters Township on Thursday night to face off against Thomas Jefferson in the quarterfinal round of the WPIAL AAA playoffs. For the second time in as many games, Ringgold entered the contest looking to avenge an earlier loss to their opponent.
Unfortunately, Thomas Jefferson had a different plan. Locked in a scoreless tie after the first forty minutes, the 12th-seeded Jaguars used a pair of second half goals to upset No. 4 Rams and take the victory.
Thomas Jefferson broke the tie at the 29-minute mark, scoring on a shot from 25 yards out that made it past an out-stretched Travis Yahnite in goal.
Twelve minutes later, the Rams would net the equalizer when Jake Gorman scored on a well placed cross by Eli Schoedel with 17 minutes remaining in regulation.
Unfortunately for the Rams, the tie wouldn’t last long. Thomas Jefferson would score the eventual game-winning goal with 12:24 on the clock after a throw in landed in the box and bounced around with neither team able to corral it. The Jaguars got lucky bounce and were able to put the ball past Yahnite and take a 2-1 lead.
Ringgold turned up the pressure with the clock running out and had their best opportunity to tie the game with 3:26 left. Brandin Jaki came streaking down the left side and took a shot at the bottom left corner of the net, but the Thomas Jefferson goalkeeper made a diving stop.
Time would run out and the Rams would fall 2-1 on the night.
With the loss, Ringgold finishes the season at 13-7 overall.
