The Ringgold boys basketball packed their bags and traveled all the way to Lititz, Pennsylvania on Friday for a PIAA opening round game against District 3 champion Lancaster Catholic, currently the #2 ranked team in the state.
After Ringgold jumped out to a 5-0 lead, the teams traded baskets and the Rams kept it close in the opening minutes before Lancaster Catholic found some momentum and took a 6-point at the end of the first quarter.
After the opening quarter the Rams battled back to tie the game at 28 in the final seconds of the half, but the Crusaders were able to knock down one final shot and take a 30-28 lead at the break.
Lancaster Catholic used a 7-0 run midway through the third quarter to take a 41-33 advantage and later led 43-35 before Ringgold closed the period on a 6-2 spurt to trail 45-41 going into the fourth quarter.
The Rams gave it everything they had in the final period and with 10 second remaining, Ringgold had possession, trailing by two. Senior Chris Peccon would get a decent look from beyond the arc, but the shot would rim out and Lancaster Catholic would hang on for the win.
Final score: Lancaster Catholic 59, Ringgold 56.
Peccon led the Rams with 20 points, while Demetrius Butler added 11 and Nate Pajak and Luke Wyvratt each finished with 10.
