The Ringgold middle school football team was on the road again on Wednesday, traveling to Charleroi to take on the Cougars.
After forcing a Charleroi punt to open the game, Ringgold’s offense didn’t take long to find its stride. Jamie Watkins took the ball 63 yards for the game’s first touchdown. Jordan Mayer scored the two-point conversion and the Rams took an early 8-0 lead.
Later in the quarter, Mayer would find Dewan Watkins on a 53-yard bomb to convert a 3-and-20 to keep the Ringgold drive alive. Mayer would finish the drive, scoring on a 12-yard run.
Ringgold would add one more touchdown with only 23 seconds remaining in the first quarter when Elijah Johnson scored on a 47-yard run.
The Rams would recover the ensuing kick-off and beginning driving once again at the start of the second quarter. Jamie Watkins would get his second touchdown of the game a few plays later, scoring from 23-yards out to make the score 26-0.
Charleroi’s struggles continued as the Cougars couldn’t find a way to contain Ringgold’s offense. The Rams would add two more scores before the half to take a commanding lead. Finding the end zone were Alex Coccagna and Jamie Watkins. At the half, Ringgold held a 40-0 lead.
Charleroi would finally get on the board late in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 40-8, but that’s as close as the Cougars would get.
Final score: Ringgold 40, Charleroi 8.
The Rams are now 6-0 on the year and head into their final game next Wednesday against McGuffey. The game will be played “under the lights” at Joe Montana Stadium. Kick-off is set for 6:00pm.
