The Ringgold softball team continued to build off of the momentum from Saturday’s win, this time beating Laurel Highlands in convincing fashion. The Lady Rams hosted the Fillies in Finleyville for a section match-up on Monday afternoon.
After falling behind by three in the top of the first inning, Ringgold responded to score two in the bottom of the inning and trim the Laurel Highland’s lead. Leah Jaquay doubled to open the inning and Amy Petersen would use an RBI-single to bring her home. Ringgold would get a second run on an error that allowed Haley Resosky to score.
The Lady Rams would play a clean defensive inning in the second before their bats came alive at the plate. Olivia Vecchio sent a solo shot over the fence to tie things up at three and then Ringgold took their first lead of the game on on a single from Leah Jaquay which score Karlie Russell. Ringgold would get four runs overall in the inning and lead 6-3.
Both teams would trade a few runs over the next couple innings, but Ringgold broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth. The Lady Rams exploded for 6 runs in the frame, followed by 5 more in the sixth.
Peyton Laflash used a walk-off grand slam in the sixth inning to enforce the mercy rule and give Ringgold its second win in as many games! Laflash finished with four hits, including a pair of doubles and seven RBI’s.
The Lady Rams (2-6, 1-4) finished with 22 hits and had eight players with multi-hit games. Karlie Russell added a four-hit effort, while Leah Jaquay finished with three. Amy Peterson, Haley Resosky, Dani Vecchio, Olivia Vecchio and Taylor Pelissero each had two hits.
Ringgold returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Elizabeth Forward to take on the Warriors!
