Ringgold traveled to Baldwin on Friday night looking to upset the No. 7 Gateway in the opening round of the WPIAL playoffs. Unfortunately, the Gators spoiled the upset bid for the Lady Rams.
The game remained close in the first half, but Ringgold struggled to find any offensive rhythm. The Lady Rams, who usually find success slashing to the basket, weren’t able to attack as effectively thanks to Gateway’s 6-3 forward, Lexi Jackson. Ringgold would experience a 6-minute scoring drought in the first quarter and trailed 11-5 after one.
In the second quarter, Ashley Briscoe converted an and-1 to cut the Gator lead to three, but once again the Lady Rams hit a lull offensively and Gateway took advantage, using a 6-0 to extend the lead back to 23-16 at the half.
The Lady Rams continued to battle in the second half and refused to go away quietly. Unfortunately, Ringgold was never able to get closer than five points. Gateway pulled away in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
Final score: Gateway 39, Ringgold 28.
Nya Adams finished with 9 points to led Ringgold offensively.
The Lady Rams finish 16-7 on the season, marking their most successful campaign in a decade. Congratulations on a great season!
