The Ringgold boys basketball team traveled to Shaler Area High School on Saturday afternoon for a WPIAL 5-A first round match-up against the #14 Titans.
Ringgold took control early and seemed poised to run away with the game, jumping out to a 19-15 lead and holding an advantage for most of the first quarter. Junior Nick Peccon paced the Rams in the quarter, scoring 11 points.
After being held in check by Ringgold’s suffocating defense for most of the first quarter, Shaler started to find momentum in the second and was able to battle back to take a 2-point lead, 34-32, at the half.
A lopsided third quarter saw the Rams come undone, being outscored by a 33-10 margin in the period. Defensive lapses allowed the Titans shooters to heat up from behind the arc, nailing three treys in the frame.
Ringgold went on to win the fourth quarter, 22-18, but it wasn’t enough to cut into the deficit.
Nick Peccon scored a game-high 27 points and Demetrius Butler had 21 for the Rams.
