Game Recap

The Ringgold middle school football team traveled to Monessen on Tuesday afternoon for their final game of the season against the Greyhounds.

It was a hard fought contest between these two power houses. Ringgold would have the ball first and would fumble on its opening possession. Monessen would take advantage and score to take an 8-0 lead. Ringgold would again turn the ball over on their second possession on a strip by Monessen defenders. The Greyhounds would drive down and score and make the score, increasing their lead 16-0.

Ringgold would finally get on track using a 50-yard score by Braydon Fine to pull the contest closer to 16-6. The Ram defense would hold and Ringgold would get the ball back. Ringgold would drive down the field and Tyler Bulzalka would take it in to the end zone from 30 yards out to end the first quarter with Monessen leading 16-12.

The second quarter would be more of the same for both teams. Monessen would score 3 more times and Ringgold would score on another Braydon Fine run from 27 yards out. Bulzalka would add the 2-point conversion. Halftime score was 36-20 in favor of Monessen.

In the second half Ringgold would turn things around. The defense was led by John Polefko, Frank Grelo and Donte Kinds and great play from the defensive line. Ringgold’s offense would also get back on track, as Tyler Bulzalka would score on a 15-yard run, bringing the score to 36-28 at the end of the third quarter.

In the 4th quarter, the defense on both sides would take over forcing multiple three-and-outs. Ringgold would get one final drive with 3:54 seconds left in the game. The Rams would get a few nice runs and with 17 seconds left, Bulzalka would cap the drive off with a 5-yard run. It would come down to a 2-point conversion to tie the contest, but Ringgold offense would come up short and the contest would end with the score of 36-34.

The Rams finish the season at 5-2 overall, with both losses coming on the final play of the game. Great season, boys!

Game Recap

The Ringgold football team hosted West Mifflin on Friday in what was essentially a must-win game for the Rams.

Ringgold received the ball and looked good on their opening drive, moving the ball down the field. After converting a fourth-and-1 from midfield to keep the drive alive, Caleb Eisel was intercepted on the next play.

After that, it was all West Mifflin for the rest of the night. The Titans used several big plays, scoring on runs of 70 and 80 yards

The Titans had touchdown runs of 80 and 70 yards in the first half and held a 13-0 lead at the break.

West Mifflin would score on their opening drive of the second half to increase their lead to 19-0, before Ringgold’s Brenden Small would put the Rams on the scoreboard.

Big plays would once again doom the Rams in the fourth quarter. After Max Maciejewski caught a 26-yard touchdown pass, Ringgold attempted an onside kick, West Mifflin recovered and ran 55-yards for a score.

The Titans would later add a 100-yard interception for a touchdown to put the game out of reach.

Final score: West Mifflin 37, Ringgold 13.

With the loss, the Rams fall to 3-4 and their playoff hopes took a significant blow. Ringgold will host New Castle next week for a non-conference game at 7:00pm. It will also be Senior Night and festivities will be again at 6:15pm.

Game Recap

The Lady Rams played their third game this week, traveling to Char Valley for a match up against the CV RED team. Today’s team captains were the 8th graders Ryleigh Simko, Khristina Morris, Eleanor Bucchianeri, Kasandra Holland, Alyssa Lenhart, Neveaha Smith, and Marina Albero.
A physical, chippy start to the game saw CV grab the opening goal just 4:35 in. The physical play continued most of the first half, with many free kicks awarded to Ringgold. Towards the end of the first half, the Lady Rams found their legs and started hitting passes. At the 27:00 minute mark, midfielder Morgan Walsh hit a high pass towards the left front corner of the net. That pass was headed by Ryleigh Simko to the opposite lower corner of the net, and Katelynn Ferrance gently tapped it in, tying the contest at 1.
Three minutes into the second half, the Lady Rams were dominating possesion, but could not get a clean shot off, as many attempts were getting blocked and deflected in heavy traffic. Finally, charging midfielder Aubrey Esper sniped a lazer shot from a wide angle to finally hit the back of the net, giving the Lady Rams a 2-1 lead. Next, a CV player was carded and removed from the game. The atmosphere was getting a bit hostile, but Ringgold quiety and slowly took command of the game. Yet another free kick was awarded to Ringgold, and defender Abby Whaley sent the kick in deep towards the front of the net. The ball was slightly deflected, and Katelynn Ferrance quickly sent the loose ball to the back of the net.
With the Lady Rams leading 3-1, midfielder Eleanor Bucchianeri launched a high towering shot from deep in the corner, the ball dropped right under the crossbar into the corner of the net, widening the Ringgold lead to 4-1. The final score was once again a shot from Eleanor Bucchianeri, after a pass from Ryleigh Simko. Goalie Melissa Williams earned a shut out in the second half.
The Lady Rams went 2-1 this busy final week, and concluded the 2017 fall season with a record of 7-3-1.
