Ringgold High School
Monessen High School
The Ringgold middle school football team traveled to Monessen on Tuesday afternoon for their final game of the season against the Greyhounds.
It was a hard fought contest between these two power houses. Ringgold would have the ball first and would fumble on its opening possession. Monessen would take advantage and score to take an 8-0 lead. Ringgold would again turn the ball over on their second possession on a strip by Monessen defenders. The Greyhounds would drive down and score and make the score, increasing their lead 16-0.
Ringgold would finally get on track using a 50-yard score by Braydon Fine to pull the contest closer to 16-6. The Ram defense would hold and Ringgold would get the ball back. Ringgold would drive down the field and Tyler Bulzalka would take it in to the end zone from 30 yards out to end the first quarter with Monessen leading 16-12.
The second quarter would be more of the same for both teams. Monessen would score 3 more times and Ringgold would score on another Braydon Fine run from 27 yards out. Bulzalka would add the 2-point conversion. Halftime score was 36-20 in favor of Monessen.
In the second half Ringgold would turn things around. The defense was led by John Polefko, Frank Grelo and Donte Kinds and great play from the defensive line. Ringgold’s offense would also get back on track, as Tyler Bulzalka would score on a 15-yard run, bringing the score to 36-28 at the end of the third quarter.
In the 4th quarter, the defense on both sides would take over forcing multiple three-and-outs. Ringgold would get one final drive with 3:54 seconds left in the game. The Rams would get a few nice runs and with 17 seconds left, Bulzalka would cap the drive off with a 5-yard run. It would come down to a 2-point conversion to tie the contest, but Ringgold offense would come up short and the contest would end with the score of 36-34.
The Rams finish the season at 5-2 overall, with both losses coming on the final play of the game. Great season, boys!
