Boys Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · Boys Cross Country just misses WPIAL Championship, 3 individuals qualify for States

The Ringgold Cross Country team traveled to White Oak on Wednesday morning for the 2020 WPIAL Championships.

The Rams had self-imposed a “championship or bust mentally” from the start of the season, and in a year where COVID-19 limited the number of state qualifiers, the boys team was in a must-win position if they wanted to make it to Hershey. In a normal year, that second place finish would’ve been good enough to make states, as three teams usually qualify.

Unfortunately, it was not meant to be as Ringgold finished as the AA runner-up, barely falling to Greensburg Salem 85-79.

In a field of 206 AA runners, Ringgold had three runners finish in the top ten. Freshman Ryan Pajak raced his way to a WPIAL runner-up individual performance in a time of 16:17 to lead the Rams. Ryan along with teammates Lucas Pajak and Ben Daerr were WPIAL medalists and qualified for the PIAA State Championships being held at Hershey Park on November 7th.

Lorenzo Zeni, Nick Whaley, Thomas Borne, and David Molisee contributed to the highest team WPIAL finish in Ringgold history.

On the girls side, the Lady Rams’ finished their season with a 4th place overall team finish.

Charlee Leach led the way with a 13th place overall individual WPIAL medalist performance in a personal best time of 20:16. Angelina Massey, Angelique Mariana, Matigan Evans, Annie Daerr, Andrea Kassa, and Kaitlyn Lusk all contributed to the highest team WPIAL finish in Ringgold history.

Congratulations to all our Ringgold runners on a remarkable day of accomplishments!
