Girls Varsity Softball · Softball eager for playoff return

For the first time since 2017, the Ringgold softball team will be competing in the WPIAL Playoffs. The Lady Rams clinched their spot by finishing fourth in Section 2-4A behind Elizabeth Forward, Thomas Jefferson and West Mifflin.

Ringgold enters the WPIAL bracket as the #9 overall seed and drew a match-up against #8 New Castle (6-8, 6-4). The Lady Rams will face the Hurricanes on Wednesday, May 15th at North Allegheny High School in a 4:00pm game. Ringgold will lean on the pitching of Jillian Scherer, who has started 12 of 13 games in her junior season. She enters the playoffs with a 3.09 ERA to go along with 66 strikeouts, while issuing only 22 free bases. The Lady Rams are hoping to bring a balanced attack at the plate to earn run support for Scherer, led by junior Nya Adams and sophomore Ashlee Selembo. Adams is hitting .509 with 19 RBI’s and 20 run scored.

Undefeated Mt. Pleasant received the #1 seed and will be awaiting the Lady Rams should they emerge victorious from their opening round game. On the other side of the bracket, section-champion Elizabeth Forward received the #2 see and a first round BYE. The Warriors are looking to get back to the WPIAL championship for the second consecutive year after finishing as runner-up in 2018.
