Boys Varsity Baseball · Baseball takes aim at elusive WPIAL title

For the third consecutive season, the Ringgold baseball team qualified for the WPIAL Playoffs. The selection committee released the brackets on Friday and the Rams will enter the postseason as the #5 overall seed after finishing as co-champions of Section 3-4A along with Thomas Jefferson.

Ahead of the Rams are #1 Greensburg Salem, #2 Yough, #3 Thomas Jefferson, and #4 Blackhawk. In the first round, Ringgold will face off against Mt. Pleasant (9-8, 6-6), who finished in a tie for fourth place in Section 1-4A.

Ringgold will rely on veteran pitching against the Vikings, most likely sending Chase Angotti or Josh Peters to the mound. While Angotti leads the Rams in games started and strikeouts, Peters brings a .716 ERA into the playoffs, having given up only 3 earned runs all year.

Knowing that runs are hard to come by in the playoffs, the Ringgold bats will need to stay hot if the Rams want to return to the WPIAL Championship for the second time in as many years. Senior Koby Bubash has been locked in as of late and has a team-high .396 batting average while homering in two of the last three games. The Rams will also lean on Bobby Boyer, Travis Drusbasky, and Nick Kolano, who all enter the playoffs batting over .300.

The first round game against the Vikings will be played on Wednesday, May 15th at 4:00pm at Seton Hill University.
