Nine Mid-Mon Valley schools descended on Ringgold’s Joe Montana Stadium for the 17th annual Scott Frederick Mid-Mon Track Classic on Monday, April 30. Schools in attendance were Belle Vernon, Bentworth, Beth-Center, Brownsville, California, Charleroi, Elizabeth Forward, Monessen, and Ringgold.
For the host Rams, both the boys and girls teams placed third overall behind Belle Vernon and Elizabeth Forward.
Ringgold’s Jake Gorman brought home the only gold medal for the boys by winning the 400m dash with a time of 52.31. Gorman rounded out an 18 point day placing second in the 200m dash. Other male standouts for Ringgold included: Montell Carlock (100m, 2nd; 200m 4th), Colton McKown (400m, 3rd), Lucas Pajak (3200m, 3rd), Tay Bronson (300mH, 3rd) and Tyler Farrelli (javelin, 3rd; shot put, 4th). The 3200m relay (Colton Mckown, Eric Obringer, Bennett Gorman and Donovan Long) placed second overall.
On the girls side, Ringgold’s 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relays both placed second. Relay members were: Andrea Kassa, Jaden Ellis, Chrystal Schuster, Nya Adams, Solana Robledo, Mikayla Byscinski. Other female standout individual performances for Ringgold included: Mikayla Byscinski (2oom, 2nd; 100m, 4th), Jaden Ellis (400m, 3rd), and Anna Vogt (100mH, 3rd).
While many teams use the Mid-Mon Track Classic as a way to renew rivalries with regional schools, most are preparing for the WPIAL Championships, which will be held May 17 at Baldwin High School. Ringgold’s top track and field athletes return to action on Friday, May 4, at the Baldwin Invitational.
