Divers from all around Western Pennsylvania traveled to South Park High School on Friday afternoon to compete in the WPIAL Diving Championships.
Ringgold’s Tay Bronson and Anna Vogt were the representatives for the Rams and competed in the AA classification. Vogt competed against 19 other divers on the female side, while Bronson faced off against 14 others in the male competition.
Vogt took WPIAL gold in dramatic fashion, with a score of 354.70. Heading into the final dive, the scores were too tight to determine a favorite, as less then five points separated the top three finishers. Vogt narrowly edged out Elizabeth Forward’s Jordan Vasko (352.75) to take the victory!
Bronson would finish in 11th place with a score of 241.90, falling to champion Kyle Maziarz (427.00) of Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic.
Vogt’s first place finish, along with the other top six finishers, qualifies her for the PIAA Championships which are held at Bucknell University in mid-March.
