The Dirty Dozen Softball All-Star teams were announced this week by the Mon Valley Independent and four Lady Rams claimed their rightful places. Seniors Natalie Adams and Johnna Mocniak, along with junior Taylor Mendicino and freshman Jillian Scherer were Ringgold’s representatives to the All-Section Second Team.
Adams, the starting catcher, led Ringgold both offensively and defensively behind the plate, finishing with a .450 Batting Average, 17 RBI’s and 21 runs scored, while committing only 1 error on the season.
Mocniak was the definition of offensive production. Her season batting average was .433, which drove her 30 RBI’s and team-leading 7 home runs.
Taylor Mendicino was selected to the second team as a designated player thanks to her ability to play multiple positions and fill whatever role the team needed. Her season ended batting .435 overall, while adding 17 RBI’s and 5 home runs.
Finally Jillian Scherer made her mark despite being only a freshman. She led the Lady Rams on the mound, starting 11 games and earning 9 wins. She finished with a 4.55 ERA and 27 strike outs.
The All-Star selections are a fitting end to the program’s most successful season since 2004. Ringgold finished the year with a winning record and clinched a playoff berth where they fell to Franklin Regional.
