The Ringgold baseball team placed a group of student-athletes on the 3-4A All-Section teams, as voted on by the section head coaches.
The 2017 season saw the Rams turn in one of the most successful seasons in recent history, posting a winning record and clinching a playoff berth for the first time since 2005. Although the season ended on a bitter note, with a second-round loss to #1-seed and eventual champion, Blackhawk, Ringgold came out of award season with the consolation of having seven student-athletes honored.
First team selections included senior Anthony Pampena at first base and junior Ryan Varley as a pitcher.
Pampena finished the year at the plate with a .411 Batting Average and 14 RBI’s. Defensively the senior captain had 132 putouts on 138 chances and only 2 errors on the year.
Varley seemed to get better and better as the year went on. He finished with 5-1 record overall, including a .646 ERA and 57 strike outs. He also contributed offensively as well, posting a .369 Batting Average to go with 11 RBI’s.
Junior Bo Haines was selected to the All-Section Second Team for his performance in the outfield. Haines led the Rams in doubles with 7, and finished the year with 8 RBI’s and 19 runs scored.
Finally, senior catcher Matt Morgan, and sophomores Koby Bubash (2B) and Josh Peters (P) garnered Honorable Mention honors.
