The Ringgold softball team hosted McKeesport on a gorgeous Tuesday afternoon in a game with playoff implications. The Lady Rams needed a win in order to keep on pace for the postseason.
After going down 3-0 on a McKeesport home run in the first inning, Ringgold used a strong offensive start of their own to get back in the game.
The Lady Rams scored on a double by Lauren Gohacki in the first inning followed up by runs off an error and singles by Taylor Mendicino and Natalie Adams in the second inning.
Trailing 8-3 in the tope of the sixth inning, McKeesport started to rally, scoring 3 runs and putting pressure on Ringgold. The Lady Rams were up to the challenge and responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game away.
The big inning for Ringgold saw the Lady Rams score on a double by Natalie Adams, a single by Lauren Gohacki, and a 2-run home run by Johnna Mocniak.
Jillian Scherer earned the win for the Lady Rams. She tossed all seven innings, giving up seven runs, 11 hits, and striking out four.
Lauren Gohacki and Natalie Adams each collected three hits to lead the Rams.
With the win, Ringgold improves to 5-4 (4-3) on the year and will be back in action again on Wednesday, traveling to Steel Valley for a non-section game. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
