Ringgold High School
West Mifflin High School
The Ringgold Lady Rams opened their 2017 campaign on Friday in a non-section match-up with the West Mifflin Titans. Unfortunately, the Lady Rams would fall 7-6 in a back-and-forth game, despite out-hitting West Mifflin 12 to six..
Both teams has several opportunities throughout the game, but it was West Mifflin that eventually prevailed in the contest.
West Mifflin took an early lead in the first inning, but after the Rams rallied to tie it at 2, West Mifflin took the lead for good with two runs in the third inning. The Titans were down 4-3 in the bottom of the third inning before a home run off of Holly Arbes drove in two runs.
With two outs in the top of the 7th, Natalie Adams started a rally with a line drive into left field, followed up by another line drive single into left field by Lauren Gohacki, which moved Natalie to second. With two on and two out, Johnna Mocniak hit a double into left field to score both runners. That would be as close as Ringgold would get and the rally came up just a little short.
Arbes took the loss for Ringgold, going three innings, giving up three runs, four hits, and striking out one.Natalie Adams, Johnna Mocniak , Lauren Gohacki, and Jillian Scherer each collected multiple hits for Ringgold. Mocniak led Ringgold Rams Varsity with three runs batted in. She went 3-for-4 on the day.
Ringgold (0-1) will be back in action on Monday in a non-section game at Baldwin.
