McKeesport High School
Ringgold High School
The McKeesport Tigers visited Ringgold High School on Tuesday night for a Section 1-5A match-up with the Rams.
After shooting only 5 for 48 from long distance in the previous two games, it was McKeesport’s hot shooting from the perimeter that propelled the Tigers to an early lead. Hitting 4 3-pointers in the opening half gave the Tigers a 24-12 lead midway through the second quarter.
Ringgold would use a 6-0 to cut the deficit to six. After trading baskets over the next several possessions, the Rams’ offense would go cold over the final four minutes of the half. Several crucial turnovers allowed McKeesport to answer with a 10-0 run of their own, en route to taking a 36-20 halftime lead.
The Tiger lead would get as high as twenty, 40-20, in the third quarter before Ryan Varley’s put back ended the Rams’ drought. Ringgold would continue to struggle to find points, scoring only four points total in the period.
Although Ringgold would outscore the Tigers in the fourth quarter, the outcome was never in doubt.
Final score: McKeesport 65, Ringgold 43.
Varley finished with 15 points on 3 3-pointers and was the only bright spot for Ringgold offensively.
Next up for Ringgold is a section game at Laurel Highlands on Friday, January 13. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm.
