Ringgold High School
Charleroi High School
Ringgold faced off against Charleroi for the second time this season during their final game of the CFS Bank Invitational. The Rams won the first match-up against the Cougars 64-58.
In the rematch, Ringgold needed to overcome several turnovers and an early first-half deficit in order to defeat the host Cougars in the consolation game. After an 11-0 Charleroi run, the Rams trailed by five and the end of the first quarter.
Charleroi built on their lead early in the second, but Ringgold used a 13-3 run of its own, fueled Anthony Pampena’s three 3-pointers, to hold a 3-point lead at the half.
Ringgold’s momentum continued into the second half, where the Rams used another big run to extend lead to 14 midway through the period. Charleroi, who was without head coach Bill Wiltz, would not go away and fought back to close gap. A clutch 3-pointer by Jaden Taylor would put the Rams up 51-38 at the end of three.
Although Charleroi would cut into the lead several times in fourth, Ringgold would continue to answer back with 3-pointers to regain their lead.
Final score: Ringgold 72, Charleroi 62.
The Rams had four players score double-digits, led by Dakota Browningâs 22 points and and 12 rebounds. Pampena would finish with 18 points, including 4 3-pointers. Taylor scored 13 points, while Jake Mayer added 11 for the Rams.
For his performance in all three games, Dakota Browning was named to the All-Tournament Team.
With the win, Ringgold improves to 5-5 (1-1) on the year and will travel to Carrick for a non-section match-up on January 2nd.
