During the first quarter break of Ringgold’s football game against the Trinity Hillers, there was a special presentation at midfield. The Ringgold School District and Athletic Department took a moment to recognize and honor team doctor, Dimitri Petro.
Dr. Petro proudly graduated from Donora High School in 1952. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1956, and the University of Pittsburgh Medical School in 1960. After serving his internship at St. Francis Hospital, he enlisted in the Navy and served two years.
He opened his family practice in 1963 in Donora and is on the staff at Mon Valley Hospital, where his has served on many committees. He is also a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Donora, where he has been the choir director for 48 years.
Dr. Petro and his wife Pauline are the parents of 5 children, all graduates of Ringgold High School and the University of Pittsburgh. They are the grandparents of 8 wonderful grandchildren.
He began his school and team physician career in Charleroi and then became the Ringgold school and team physician in 1967. This year marks his 50th season with both the school and football team.
At the football game, Dr. Petro was joined at midfield by current Ringgold Principal, Jason Minniti, along with Athletic Director Laura Grimm and Head Football Coach (and father-in-law), Nick Milchovich. They presented Dr. Petro with a commemorative jersey recognizing his remarkable career accomplishment and thanking him for his service to Ringgold.
